The stage is set for another glam Aurora Ball fundraiser in Sydney this weekend, with organisers confident their new venue will push the bar even higher.
The annual event began almost two decades ago, established by a group of friends who wanted to raise much-needed funds for the LGBTIQ community – and have fun while doing it. Last year’s event raised more than $100,000.
Moving from Town Hall to the International Convention Centre this year, the 2017 Aurora Ball will overlook Darling Harbour and allow a record number of people to take part.
“Put simply, we had outgrown our old home at Town Hall. We’re committed to making it possible for as many our supportive community members to attend as possible,” organisers said.
This year’s theme is ‘A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’, hosted by Wendy Harmer. There’ll be entertainment from singer/dancer Meow Meow, escape artist Brendan Hay and DJ Dan Murphy. Former NRL player Casey Conway will be the night’s keynote speaker.
Aurora Group chairperson Alison King can’t wait for Saturday night.
“The night is about giving back to the community where so many of us have found our feet, discovered acceptance and flourished. For all the achievements we’ve made together, there is still much to do,” Ms King said.
Tickets for the night have already sold out, but you can take part in the fundraising auction here.
