An ABC-TV telemovie movie is in production about the birth of Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
Riot will follow the life of activist Lance Gowland and his push for gay rights in Australia during the 1970s.
“Riot will examine a hugely significant milestone in Australian history that is both culturally and socially important.” said Sally Caplan, Head of Production at Screen Australia.
“Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of Lance Gowland’s passing and in the safe hands of Joanna Werner and Louise Smith – who have an exceptional track record for creating high quality local drama – now is the perfect time to tell the story of this iconic and highly effective activist.”
It’ll feature a swag of quality Australian actors including Xavier Samuel (Twilight), Damon Herriman, Jessica de Gouw and Kate Box.
The telemovie will be shot in Sydney over the next four weeks, to be released in 2018.
